I was surprised to find out online later that the White-throated Kingfisher is a tree kingfisher and often lives away from water. Their diet includes amphibians, small rodents, and other birds. According to Wiki, they are widely distributed in Eurasia from Bulgaria, Turkey, east through south-east Asia.
This is my contribution to World Bird Wednesday. I don't know much about birds but I love observing them. I'd like to share the birds that I see on a regular basis in my garden.

Oh! I have the same bird here. In fact there are 2 identical ones that have been visiting us daily. They are such beauties.

Kingfishers are so beautiful. We have a lot of these birds visiting us in my neighbourhood. They make quite a ruckus in the morning. I wasn't aware of bird world until I started reading Ranjit Lal's books. He has some really informative, yet light-hearted books on Indian birds, ideal for a first time birder.
Wow what a great bird! I never knew that there were such a thing as "Tree Kingfishers." I guess they are also called Wood Kingfishers. Thank you for introducing me to a new species of kingfisher that doesn't usually fish!
Kanak, how wonderful to have a kingfisher in your garden and I must add, a mango tree for it to sit in.
Many of us have started birdwatching by just being aware of the birds in our gardens and, over time, learning to identify them. After that, the world is your oyster and we start actively pursuing new finds and noticing the little things that make one bird different from another.
