Critters!

Some of the unique insects seen on our homestead in my hometown. All these photos were taken in July. I don't know the names of most of these insects but it was a treat to observe and photograph them. The spider was magnificent. Despite the size and the bright colours, they are not dangerous. It's a common sight to see them in their huge webs.

And now the dragonflies...........

My internet connection is very slow which is why I haven't been able to post sooner. There are are many photos I have taken and I'm simply dying to share them. Hope my computer woes will end soon....

We have very similar collection of photos. Like you, I do not know some of their names but feel happy to have captured them.

Your beetles are beautiful. It's amazing that there are so many varieties.

That red lizard is an oriental garden lizard (calotes vesicolor), the males have the ability to change into various hues of red during the breeding season. It is their way of telling the ladies that they are ready! Also to compare machoness with the other male lizards.

I recognize some of your insects. The first is some sort of a frog-hopper, I believe. An insect from the order hemiptera, followed by the frog-legged beetle (sagra buqueti?) and nephila sp. for the spider.

These are all wonderful!! Do you know what any of them are? I love that little red and black spotted one. The dragonflies are beautiful, too. But the spider is totally creepy!! Do any of these get into your house?

Welcome back, Kanak! Those bugs are beautiful. I have seen the same spider here too. The dragonflies are fantastic! We never get to see them here, especially in such colours.

Dragonflies are delicate and beautiful, I love the last one. As to other critters, I'd rather not welcome them to be around, but just look at them in the photos are nice. I can't have warm feeling toward lizards, and spiders while I like to see their web glistening when wet.

A lovely collection of critters. I especially like the black beetle, it's very unusual.
