Nature Notes/Dragonflies
Although I photograph a whole lot of dragonflies every summer, I have never seen or photographed dragonfly exuvia. Below is the photo that I clicked yesterday. At first glance I thought it was an insect I hadn't seen before. It was only after I compared Google images that I knew it was dragonfly exuvia. It was on the underside of an anthurium leaf.
And here's what I found a few days ago on one of my plants. The blue/green combination of colours was most striking.
And a similar one that I found this morning on my cucumber trellis. i couldn't capture that iridescence in today's cloudy rainy weather.

Kanak,
Lovely dragonflies...variety indeed. I have never seen the exuvia before.I haven't seen dragonflies here yet:)
Love your Header!!!
I do love your "up close and personal" shots of the dragonflies! Delightful! I does look so summery -- a look we're still waiting for in Seattle! Hope your week is going well!

Oh, and I love your header, too!
I love that you found the exuvia. I have never seen one here and we are just getting into dragonfly season. Michelle
The middle dragonfly is amazingly beautiful...words fail. The first one does not even look like a dragonfly, what happened to it's wings? Your header is wonderful, I want you to never change it!!!
Gorgeous pictures and you sent me off to google the new word. exuvia. Thanks!!!!
incredible good shots or the dragonflies. I wish you could share them on my meme NF Winged. :)

I was looking at the dragonflies skitting around the yard today. I am hoping they are eating lots and lots of mosquitoes. If so, we may have very obese dragonflies, lol.
Lovely shots !!!!

Wonderful photos Kanak! The iridescence really is beautiful. Oh, for some of that wonderful light here. I have yet to find exuvia and it's not for the want of trying ;-)
The weather is atrocious here again, we had more than a month's worth of rain in 24 hours the other day! Today we have very high winds and more rain forecast :-( So far I have only seen one damselfly all year, it is getting very worrying.
Yes, Kanak, that iridescence photo is stunning ... and your header photo, too. I saw my first dragonfly of the UK summer season (very late for a first one) last weekend, but it was windy and far from ideal conditions. I have spotted a few damselflies ...
Isn't nature beautiful? I especially like that blue and green dragonfly.
Lovely!
Great shots of the dragonflies and also wonderful winged beauties in the next post.
